Center
of Independent Learning, Inc. provides small group classes to
school-aged children. Within supportive groups of three to six children,
students work independently and together in a structured, challenging,
yet, informal atmosphere.
The program focuses on the individual's
academic needs. The student and parents work with the teacher in setting
goals to be accomplished during each session instead of competition;
independent learning and co-operative group work are emphasized.
Basic
skills are stressed although creativity is considered to be an integral
part of all learning. Computer skills and usage are encouraged at all
age levels.
Students
are enrolled in classes according to level of ability, interest, and
maturity. Classes are usually two-and-a-half hours long and are
scheduled once a week. The
six or seven week sessions extend throughout the year. During the winter
and spring, vacations between each session correspond with those
scheduled in the public schools.
